I love scary games. I love hidden picture games. Now the best of both worlds can be had! Not only are these five games scary, they are also fun to play and easy to navigate. Don’t waste your time on run of the mill hidden object games when you can creep yourself out and have a good time doing it.
- Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst – Mystery Case Files games are always a good bet, and the Ravenhearst series is particularly creepy. With ghosts, even little kid ones, a haunted mansion, murders and disappearances, and an immortal bad guy; this series has you coming back for more. The newest one, Escape from Ravenhearst, is particularly creepy. In addition to the scare factor, the game is also complex and long enough to keep you entertained without being so hard that you get frustrated. The only bad thing about it is that it’s not really re-playable. Once you’ve solved the mystery, I doubt most players will want to run through it again.
- Weird Park: Broken Tune–Investigate a series of ‘accidental’ deaths at a haunted amusement park. If you already have a fear of clowns and other things circus-related, you’ll be shaking in your boots with this game. With great graphics and a fun, creepy storyline, you’ll be hooked. What makes it even more fun is the odd objects you get to find and the even stranger atmosphere. Again, not a game that’s too hard or too easy. This one’s just right.
- Mystery Legends: Beauty and the Beast–A gothic romance touched by a witches blackened fingers. You, as Belle, must rescue the Beast from the trap the evil witch has set. The atmosphere is decidedly creepy, and the giant spiders towards the end would turn anyone into an arachnophobe. This game is a little on the short and simple side. It doesn’t take too long to beat, but it is fun while it lasts.
- Grim Tales: The Bride–Your sister disappears the night before her wedding. Everyone says she’s dead, but there’s no body. On a quest to uncover what happened to her you must return to your family’s haunted mansion. The mansion itself is a gothic masterpiece, but the graphics really make this game. They have a soft, eerie quality. Thankfully, the hidden picture scenes are not negatively affected by the atmosphere, unlike some games I’ve played. The story line is fun and creepy and flows well. This game, also, can be somewhat short and sweet, but it is well worth your time.
- Shiver: Vanishing Hitchhiker– The rainy atmosphere and creepy music make this game feel Silent Hill-esque, though the actual scare factor is limited. It has good graphics and an interesting story line. Not too long, the game offers few puzzles, but has lots of hidden objects to find. This game is strangely addictive, pulling you into gameplay through its ominous storyline. Definitely a game worth playing in the dark. If you can afford it, the collector’s edition has extended game play.
The variety of scary hidden objects is a sight to be seen. I can think of several more to add to this list, but these are my top five of the creepiest hidden object games out there. Try out a free demo today and see what you think. I’ve found Big Fish Games (which dominates the market) the easiest and most convenient place to try and buy games. Game House can get frustrating at times, as can Shockwave and iWin. But no matter what site you choose to play from, you are sure to enjoy these five scary hidden object games.
